Applications
1,4-Cyclohexanedione is an important alicyclic diketone intermediate with two carbonyl groups at para position, possessing high chemical reactivity for condensation, cyclization and reduction reactions. It is widely used in organic synthesis for constructing cycloalkane derivatives, fused heterocyclic compounds and aromatic intermediates. In pharmaceutical industry, it serves as a key building block for synthesizing anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antibacterial and cardiovascular drug intermediates, also applied in the preparation of enzyme inhibitors and pharmaceutical molecular modifiers.
In agrochemical field, it is used to synthesize high-efficiency fungicides, herbicides and plant growth regulators. It is also commonly applied in fine chemical industry for the production of perfume intermediates, polymer monomers and organic synthetic raw materials. Besides, it acts as an important laboratory reagent for organic methodology research, catalytic reaction exploration and custom compound synthesis.
Safety Information
This substance is irritating to skin, eyes and respiratory tract. Direct skin contact may cause redness, slight inflammation and allergic reaction after long-term exposure. Eye contact will lead to severe irritation, tearing and conjunctival discomfort, requiring immediate rinsing with plenty of clean water. Inhalation of dust or vapor may irritate nasal and respiratory mucosa, causing cough and throat dryness. Accidental ingestion may cause mild gastrointestinal discomfort such as nausea and stomach upset.
It should be kept away from strong oxidants and strong reducing agents to prevent exothermic reaction and decomposition. Operate in fume hood, wear protective gloves, safety goggles and dust mask during handling. Avoid dust generation, sealed storage under dry and cool environment. Waste and empty containers shall be disposed in accordance with hazardous chemical regulations, and prohibited from discharging into water and soil to prevent ecological harm.
