Applications
Sodium thiosulfate pentahydrate is a classic inorganic sulfur salt with strong reducing and complexing ability. In photographic industry, it is widely used as fixing agent to dissolve unexposed silver halide. In textile printing and dyeing, it serves as dechlorinating agent, bleaching agent and sulfur dye auxiliary. In chemical industry, it acts as reducing agent, deoxidizer and raw material for manufacturing other thiosulfates.
In environmental water treatment, it is used for dechlorination, detoxification of cyanide and heavy metal ion complexation. In pharmaceutical and daily chemical fields, it is applied for skin disinfection, antifungal auxiliary preparation and chlorine removal agent. It is also commonly used as laboratory analytical reagent for titration, iodine quantitative analysis and chemical intermediate synthesis.
Safety Information
This product is low-toxic and slightly irritating to skin, eyes and respiratory mucosa. Long-term direct skin contact may cause dryness and mild discomfort; dust entering eyes will cause slight stinging and foreign body sensation, requiring timely rinsing with clean water. Inhalation of dust may irritate throat and nasal cavity, causing mild cough and throat itching. Accidental ingestion in small dose may lead to slight gastrointestinal distension and nausea.
Avoid contact with strong acids, as reaction will produce toxic sulfur dioxide gas. Operate in ventilated environment during handling, wear ordinary protective gloves and dust mask. Keep sealed and moisture-proof storage, do not mix with acid chemicals. Waste materials and packaging shall be disposed according to general inorganic chemical waste regulations, and prohibited from arbitrary dumping to prevent environmental pollution.
