Applications
2-Ethoxybenzoic acid is a valuable substituted benzoic acid intermediate with ethoxy and carboxyl groups on the ortho position of benzene ring, possessing high chemical activity for esterification, amidation, condensation and cross-coupling reactions. It is widely used in organic synthesis as a core building block for constructing multi-substituted aromatic derivatives and fused heterocyclic molecular skeletons via Suzuki and other coupling reactions.
In pharmaceutical industry, it is extensively adopted for the synthesis of anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antibacterial and cardiovascular drug intermediates, also used in the preparation of enzyme inhibitors and small-molecule targeted drug candidates. In agrochemical field, it serves as key raw material for high-efficiency fungicides, herbicides and plant growth regulator intermediates. Besides, it is widely applied in fine chemicals, perfume intermediates, dye synthesis, organic optoelectronic materials, as well as laboratory synthetic methodology research and customized fine chemical production.
Safety Information
This compound is moderately irritating to human skin, eyes and respiratory tract. Direct skin contact may cause redness, itching and mild inflammatory discomfort; long-term repeated exposure may trigger skin sensitization and allergic dermatitis. Eye contact will lead to severe stinging, conjunctival congestion and tearing, requiring immediate and thorough rinsing with plenty of running water. Inhalation of dust can irritate nasal and bronchial mucosa, causing throat dryness, cough and chest discomfort, especially unfavorable to people with respiratory allergies. Accidental ingestion may induce mild gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea and abdominal distension.
It has certain toxicity to aquatic organisms and is strictly prohibited from direct discharge into water bodies, sewage and soil environment. During handling, operate in a well-ventilated fume hood, wear nitrile protective gloves, chemical safety goggles and dust mask. Keep away from high temperature, open flame and strong oxidizing substances. Store hermetically in dry, cool and dark environment. Waste residues and empty packaging must be disposed in accordance with hazardous chemical waste regulations to avoid environmental pollution and potential health risks.
