Applications
25-Hydroxyvitamin D3 (Calcifediol) is a key steroid metabolite of vitamin D3 in the human body, which is converted from vitamin D3 in the liver under the action of vitamin D3 hydroxylase, and is the main form of vitamin D3 in the blood, with important physiological activity and wide application in medicine, food, feed and scientific research fields.
- Pharmaceutical Field: It has the function of regulating calcium and phosphorus metabolism, promoting the absorption of calcium and phosphorus in the small intestine, and promoting the deposition of calcium and phosphorus in bone tissue to promote bone formation. It is widely used in the treatment of metabolic bone diseases such as osteoporosis, rickets and osteomalacia, especially suitable for the treatment of osteoporosis in the elderly and metabolic bone diseases related to chronic renal failure; it can also be used to treat hypocalcemia caused by hemodialysis, and is an important raw material for the synthesis of active vitamin D drugs and clinical diagnostic reagents.
- Food & Health Product Field: As a high-efficiency vitamin D nutritional fortifier, it has higher absorption efficiency than ordinary vitamin D3, and can effectively improve the vitamin D level in the human body. It is added to modified milk powder (for infants, children and pregnant women), dairy products, plant protein drinks, solid drinks and special medical purpose formula foods to supplement human vitamin D and prevent osteoporosis.
- Feed Additive Field: It is used in the formulation of livestock, poultry and aquatic compound feed and pet food to improve calcium and phosphorus metabolism, enhance bone health of animals, improve egg production rate and eggshell quality, and promote the growth performance of livestock and poultry.
- Scientific Research Field: It is used as a standard substance and research reagent in vitamin D metabolism research, bone metabolism disease model research and cell culture experiments, providing important support for related scientific research work.
- Other Fields: It can be used as an auxiliary antioxidant in oil-based food, and can also be used as a raw material for the synthesis of vitamin D3 derivatives and steroid compounds in organic synthesis.
Safety Information
- Hazard Category: Irritant (GHS hazard symbol: GHS07; hazard code: R36/37/38)
- Hazards: It is slightly irritating to the skin, eyes and respiratory tract. Direct skin contact may cause slight redness, itching and dryness; eye contact may lead to conjunctival hyperemia and burning sensation; inhalation of dust may cause mild respiratory tract irritation such as cough and chest tightness. Long-term or large-scale contact may have potential impacts on human calcium and phosphorus metabolism, leading to abnormal calcium levels in the body.
- Operation Precautions: All operations shall be carried out in a well-ventilated fume hood and under dark conditions (avoiding light); wear nitrile gloves, protective clothing, safety goggles and dust mask to avoid direct contact and inhalation of dust. It is recommended to operate under the protection of inert gas to prevent degradation caused by contact with air. Before use, the product should be returned to room temperature and balanced for 30 minutes to avoid moisture absorption due to temperature difference.
- Storage & Transportation Requirements: It shall be stored in a sealed double aluminum vacuum packaging with desiccant inside, and the outer packaging shall be reinforced with HDPE barrel or cardboard barrel; the storage temperature shall be controlled at 2–8 ℃ (refrigeration), and it shall be protected from light, moisture and high temperature. The transportation shall adopt full cold chain (2–8 ℃), avoid violent vibration, sun exposure and moisture. The shelf life is 24 months under proper storage conditions; after opening, it shall be used up as soon as possible.
- Waste Disposal: Waste residues and contaminated packaging shall be disposed of in strict accordance with the management regulations of hazardous chemicals, and shall not be directly discharged into water bodies, soil or sewers to avoid environmental pollution.
- First Aid Measures: In case of skin contact, rinse immediately with plenty of clean water for at least 15 minutes; in case of eye contact, rinse with plenty of water for 15 minutes and seek medical advice in time; in case of accidental ingestion, do not induce vomiting and seek medical treatment immediately with the product label.
