Applications
CAS 29700-22-9 (Oxyresveratrol) is a natural polyphenolic compound with a stilbene structure, extracted from medicinal plants, and has excellent biological activity and safety, widely used in pharmaceutical research, cosmetics, food additives, analytical testing and other fields[6][8]. In the field of cosmetics, it is a high-efficiency skin whitening and lightening agent, which can inhibit tyrosinase activity, and its whitening effect is 30–35 times stronger than kojic acid and 10–12 times stronger than licorice extract[6]. It also has strong antioxidant activity, anti-glycation and UV protection effects, which can delay skin aging, reduce wrinkles and make the skin glowing, and is widely used in the formulation of whitening, anti-aging and sunscreen cosmetics[6]. In the field of pharmaceutical research, it has various biological activities such as anti-inflammatory, anti-thrombotic, anti-cancer, anti-hyperlipidemia and antibacterial[8]. It can inhibit the growth of tumor cells, regulate lipid metabolism, and has potential application value in the research and development of anti-tumor, anti-cardiovascular disease and anti-inflammatory drugs[8]. In the field of analytical testing, it is used as an analytical standard and reference substance for content determination and qualitative identification, and is widely used in the quality control of traditional Chinese medicine and natural products[3][7]. In addition, it can be used as a natural antioxidant in food additives to extend the shelf life of food; it is also used in the research of natural product chemistry, such as the extraction, separation and purification process optimization of plant active ingredients, and the study of structure-activity relationship[3][7]. It can also be modified to prepare derivatives such as water-soluble oxyresveratrol (cyclodextrin inclusion complex), which solves the problem of low water solubility and bioavailability, and expands its application scope in pharmacology[6].
Safety Information
- Hazard Category: Irritant (GHS hazard symbol: GHS07; hazard statements: H319; hazard code: R36)[2][4]
- Hazards: It is irritating to the eyes (severe eye damage, Category 1) and skin (percutaneous irritation, Category 2); it may cause specific target organ toxicity after a single contact (Category 3)[2]. Direct skin contact may cause skin irritation, such as redness, itching and dryness; eye contact may cause severe eye irritation, including conjunctival hyperemia, burning sensation and corneal irritation[2]. It is non-toxic under normal use, and no obvious acute toxicity has been found; it is for research use only and shall not be used for medical diagnosis[7].
- Operation Precautions: All operations shall be carried out in a well-ventilated environment and under dark conditions to avoid light; wear nitrile gloves, protective clothing, safety goggles to avoid direct contact and accidental ingestion[4]. Follow the precautionary instructions P305+P351+P338. Do not eat, drink or smoke during operation; clean the face and hands thoroughly after operation. The operation area shall be equipped with emergency rescue equipment and first aid drugs; avoid contact with strong oxidants to prevent oxidation and degradation[4].
- Storage & Transportation Requirements: It shall be stored in a sealed brown glass container or double aluminum vacuum packaging with desiccant inside; the storage temperature shall be controlled at 2–8 ℃ (refrigeration), protected from light, moisture and high temperature[3][7]. Transportation shall avoid violent vibration, sun exposure and moisture; it shall be transported in accordance with the regulations of general chemicals (customs code: 29072990)[2], and shall not be mixed with food, feed and strong oxidants; common packaging specifications include 20mg, 50mg, 100mg, 500mg, 1g, 10g, 100g, which can meet the needs of laboratory and small-scale production[3][7].
- Waste Disposal: Waste residues and contaminated packaging shall be disposed of in strict accordance with environmental protection management regulations, and shall not be directly discharged into water bodies, soil or sewers to avoid environmental pollution; the waste shall be collected and treated by professional institutions in accordance with relevant regulations.
- First Aid Measures: In case of skin contact, immediately take off contaminated clothes, rinse thoroughly with plenty of soapy water and clean water for at least 15 minutes, and seek medical advice if there is discomfort; in case of eye contact, rinse with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes and seek medical advice in time; in case of accidental ingestion, do not induce vomiting, keep the patient in a supine position, and seek medical treatment immediately with the product label.
- Safety Instructions: S26 (In case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical advice); S24/25 (Avoid contact with skin and eyes); WGK Germany: 3[2].
