Applications
2-Mercaptobenzimidazole is a classic sulfur-containing benzimidazole heterocyclic compound, widely applied as rubber antioxidant, metal corrosion inhibitor, pharmaceutical intermediate and organic synthetic raw material. It has excellent anti-aging performance for rubber and latex products, effectively resisting thermal oxidation and ozone aging and extending service life. It can form stable chelates with various metal ions, used as corrosion inhibitor for copper, iron and alloy materials in circulating water and industrial pipeline systems. In pharmaceutical and fine chemical industry, it is an important building block for synthesizing antibacterial, antifungal and anti-inflammatory drug molecules, and also used in the preparation of fungicides, preservatives and photographic chemicals. Moreover, it serves as a common analytical reagent for metal ion detection and chelation research.
Safety Information
This heterocyclic thiol compound has mild irritant effect on human body. Inhalation of fine powder may irritate respiratory mucosa, causing sore throat and dry cough. Skin contact may lead to local redness, itching and slight allergic reaction; long-term contact may cause skin dryness. Eye contact will produce obvious burning sensation and conjunctival congestion, need immediate flushing with plenty of clean water. Accidental ingestion may cause mild gastrointestinal discomfort such as nausea and abdominal distension. All operations should be carried out in a ventilated fume hood with chemical-resistant gloves and safety goggles. Keep tightly sealed and stored away from light and moisture, avoid contact with strong oxidants to prevent oxidative deterioration. Waste residues and contaminated packaging shall be disposed of in accordance with hazardous waste regulations to avoid water and soil pollution.
