Applications
2,3-Dihydroxynaphthalene is an important naphthalene diol aromatic intermediate, widely used in dye synthesis, organic pigment production, pharmaceutical intermediates and analytical chemistry. It is the key raw material for preparing azo dyes, sulfur dyes and organic colorants, with excellent color development and coupling performance. It can be used as a raw material for the synthesis of antibacterial, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory drug intermediates. In analytical chemistry, it serves as a sensitive chromogenic reagent and metal ion chelating indicator for the detection of heavy metals and transition metal ions. It is also commonly applied in the preparation of polymer additives, antioxidant preservatives and organic synthetic raw materials.
Safety Information
This aromatic diol compound has mild irritation and oxidation sensitivity. Inhalation of fine powder may irritate respiratory tract, causing sore throat and dry cough. Skin contact may cause redness, itching and slight allergic reaction; long-term contact may lead to skin dryness. Eye contact will produce burning pain and conjunctival congestion, need immediate rinsing with plenty of clean water. Accidental ingestion may cause mild gastrointestinal discomfort. Operate in a well-ventilated fume hood, wear gloves, safety goggles and dust mask. Keep sealed, protected from light, stored in cool dry place to prevent oxidation discoloration, away from strong oxidants. Waste and contaminated packaging shall be disposed of as hazardous waste to avoid environmental pollution.
