Applications
Dimethyl disulfide is an important organic sulfur fine chemical raw material. It is widely used as sulfidation reagent, methylation reagent and organic synthesis intermediate in pesticide, pharmaceutical and petrochemical industries. It serves as a key raw material for synthesizing insecticides, fungicides and herbicide intermediates. In petrochemical industry, it is applied for catalyst sulfidation and oil odor modification. It is also commonly used in the preparation of rubber additives, food flavor intermediates and custom organic sulfur compound synthesis.
Safety Information
This liquid is flammable, volatile and has strong pungent odor with irritant and harmful properties. Vapor may cause severe irritation to respiratory tract, leading to cough, dizziness and chest discomfort. Skin contact may cause redness, irritation and allergic reaction; prolonged contact may degrease skin. Eye contact induces intense burning pain, tearing and conjunctival injury. Ingestion causes nausea, vomiting and gastrointestinal poisoning symptoms. Operate in well-ventilated fume hood, keep away from open flame; wear fire-resistant gloves, chemical goggles and gas mask. Store sealed in cool fire-proof warehouse, isolated from oxidants and acids. Waste liquid and packaging must be treated as hazardous waste to prevent air and water pollution.
