Uses
This organometallic ruthenium dimer is a highly active catalyst precursor in modern organic synthesis. It serves as a key starting material for preparing various Ru(II) complexes with tailored ligands (e.g., phosphines, NHCs, diamines), widely used in asymmetric hydrogenation, transfer hydrogenation, and C–H activation reactions. In pharmaceutical and fine chemical industries, it enables efficient synthesis of chiral alcohols, amines, and heterocyclic intermediates for APIs and fragrances. Its p?cymene ligand imparts good solubility and stability, making it suitable for both batch and continuous flow processes. It is also employed in hydrosilylation of ketones and alkenes, and as a precatalyst for CO? reduction. In academic research, it is a standard tool for developing new catalytic methodologies and studying reaction mechanisms. Due to its well?defined structure and versatile reactivity, it is indispensable in homogeneous catalysis and advanced organic synthesis.
Safety Information
Classified as GHS07 (Warning); H319 (Causes serious eye irritation). May be harmful if swallowed (H302). Inhalation of dust may irritate respiratory tract, causing cough or discomfort. Skin contact may cause mild irritation, redness, or itching; prolonged contact may lead to dermatitis. Eye contact causes severe stinging, tearing, and conjunctival inflammation. Avoid ingestion; may cause nausea, vomiting, or gastrointestinal irritation. Handle in well?ventilated fume hoods; wear nitrile gloves, safety goggles, and dust mask. Avoid contact with strong oxidants, acids, and bases. Store in tightly closed containers in cool, dry, dark area. In case of skin contact, rinse with plenty of water for 15 min. If eye contact, flush with water for 15 min and seek medical attention. If swallowed, drink water and do not induce vomiting; get medical help. Dispose as hazardous waste per local regulations.
