PEGDGE is a homobifunctional epoxy cross-linker widely used in bioconjugation, polymer chemistry, and industrial materials. It reacts with amine, thiol, and hydroxyl groups under mild conditions, ideal for cross-linking proteins, peptides, and polysaccharides in biosensor immobilization, hydrogel synthesis, and drug delivery systems. In industrial epoxy resins, it acts as a reactive diluent and flexibilizer, reducing viscosity and improving toughness/adhesion in coatings, adhesives, and composites. In cosmetics, it serves as a film-former and stabilizer. It is also used in electronics for encapsulation, in textiles for wrinkle-resistant finishing, and in water treatment as a flocculant cross-linker.
GHS Classification: H315 (Causes skin irritation), H319 (Causes serious eye irritation), H335 (May cause respiratory irritation). Signal Word: Warning. Acute oral LD50 >5,000 mg/kg (low toxicity). Skin contact may cause redness, itching, or mild burns; wear nitrile gloves and protective clothing. Eye contact can lead to severe irritation and corneal damage; use splash-proof goggles and rinse eyes with water for 15 minutes if exposed. Inhalation of dust/mist may irritate the respiratory tract; use in a fume hood or well-ventilated area and wear a dust mask. No evidence of carcinogenicity, mutagenicity, or reproductive toxicity. Harmful to aquatic life; prevent discharge into waterways. Store separately from strong acids and oxidants; neutralize spills with absorbent material and dispose of per local regulations.
