1. Physical Properties
2-(2-Hydroxyethyl)pyridine is a colorless to pale yellow or light orange transparent liquid, with a slight characteristic odor, no sediment, suspended matter or mechanical impurities, and good fluidity. It has a density of 1.10 g/cm3 at 20℃, a boiling point of 139℃ (at 40 mmHg) and a flash point of 92℃, which is a combustible liquid and non-volatile under normal temperature and pressure. It is soluble in water, ethanol and ether, slightly soluble in chloroform and methanol, and has the property of being hygroscopic, easy to absorb moisture when exposed to air. Its melting point is around 38.49℃, and it has a refractive index of 1.54.
2. Chemical Properties
It is an organic pyridine derivative with stable chemical properties, not easy to oxidize or decompose under normal temperature and pressure, but should avoid contact with strong oxidants.
