Budesonide (CAS 51333-22-3) is a high-purity synthetic corticosteroid, a non-halogenated inhaled anti-inflammatory drug with potent glucocorticoid effects and weak mineralocorticoid effects. Its molecular formula is C??H??O? and molecular weight is 430.5 Da, existing as a mixture of two epimers (22R and 22S). It is a white to off-white, tasteless and odorless crystalline powder, mainly used in pharmaceutical R&D and clinical treatment for asthma, allergic rhinitis, inflammatory bowel disease and other inflammatory diseases.
1. Physical Properties
White to off-white, tasteless, odorless crystalline powder. It is practically insoluble in water and heptane, sparingly soluble in ethanol, freely soluble in chloroform, with an octanol-water partition coefficient of 1.6×103 at pH 7.4.
2. Chemical Properties
A synthetic corticosteroid, existing as a mixture of 22R and 22S epimers. It has potent anti-inflammatory effects, inhibits inflammatory cell activation and inflammatory mediators, and undergoes high first-pass elimination in the liver. It is stable under recommended storage conditions, incompatible with strong oxidants.
