Tolnaftate (CAS 2398-96-1), a synthetic thiocarbamate compound, is a white to off-white powder with a molecular formula of C??H??NOS and a molecular weight of 307.41 Da. It is a widely used antifungal agent, active against dermatophytes, yeasts and filamentous fungi, and inhibits squalene epoxidase to exert antifungal effects. It is mainly applied in pharmaceutical R&D, OTC antifungal preparations (such as creams, sprays), and scientific research fields.

White to off-white powder, melting point 110.5-111.5 °C, density about 1.1328 g/cm3 (rough estimate), refractive index 1.6970 (estimate), soluble in chloroform, sparingly soluble in ethanol and methanol, water solubility <0.1 g/100 mL at 22 oC.
2. Chemical Properties
A synthetic thiocarbamate compound, stable under recommended storage conditions, incompatible with acids, peroxides and acid halides; flammable gases may be generated when mixed with aldehydes, nitrides and hydrides, with excellent antifungal activity and ability to inhibit squalene epoxidase.
