Nifuroxazide (CAS 965-52-6), also known as Nifuroxazid, Diarlidan or Dicoferin, is a nitrofuran-based antibiotic and STAT3 inhibitor, appearing as a bright yellow crystalline powder. It has a molecular formula of C??H?N?O? and a molecular weight of 275.22 Da. It is an orally available agent, mainly used in the treatment of acute infectious diarrhea and related gastrointestinal infections, as well as in pharmaceutical R&D and scientific research fields due to its anti-transfer and anti-cancer activities.
1. Physical Properties
Bright yellow crystalline powder, melting point 281-283 °C, density about 1.3877 g/cm3 (rough estimate), soluble in DMSO, slightly soluble or insoluble in water and ethanol, odorless, stable under normal temperature and pressure.
2. Chemical Properties
A nitrofuran-based organic compound, stable under recommended storage conditions, with a nitro group that can be reduced by bacterial nitroreductases to generate reactive species; it is a STAT3 inhibitor that can inhibit the activation of STAT1/3/5 transcription, and has antibacterial, anti-transfer and anti-cancer activities, mainly acting locally in the intestinal lumen.
