Product Description
Dextrin (CAS 9004-53-9), also known as Corn Dextrin, White Dextrin or (Roasted Starch), is a group of low-molecular-weight carbohydrate polymers produced by the partial hydrolysis of starch (such as corn, wheat, potato, and cassava starch) under heating or acidic conditions. It has a variable molecular formula represented as (C?H??O?)?, with an average molecular weight of about 504.44 Da (for typical fractions). It appears as a white, yellow or brown amorphous powder, odorless and slightly sweet in taste. As a versatile multifunctional additive, it possesses excellent binding, thickening and stabilizing properties, widely used in food, pharmaceutical, papermaking, printing and dyeing, and adhesive fields.
1. Physical Properties
White, yellow or brown amorphous powder, odorless and slightly sweet; slightly soluble in cold water, easily soluble in boiling water, insoluble in ethanol and ether; density about 1.51 g/cm3, decomposes at 200-220 °C without a definite melting point; stable under normal room temperature and dry conditions.
2. Chemical Properties
A polysaccharide polymer with variable polymerization degree, derived from partial hydrolysis of starch; non-reducing or weakly reducing, can be further hydrolyzed into glucose under acidic or enzymatic conditions; stable in neutral and weakly acidic environments, easy to absorb moisture in humid air, and may agglomerate but not decompose.
3. Storage & Safety Properties
Storage: Store in a sealed container at room temperature, keep dry and light-proof, avoid contact with moisture and high temperature to prevent agglomeration. Safety: Non-toxic, non-irritating, GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) for food use; no flammable or explosive hazards; avoid long-term contact with strong acids and alkalis. Transportation: Comply with relevant regulations, use sealed packaging to prevent moisture absorption and contamination, and can be transported by conventional means.
