Chemical Properties
- Chemical Category: Organotitanium compound, metallocene, specifically a cyclopentadienyl titanium complex, commonly abbreviated as Cp?TiCl?.
- Stability: Stable under ambient temperature and pressure when stored in an inert gas atmosphere; incompatible with strong oxidants, and may undergo decomposition reactions when in contact with them; slowly hydrolyzes in air and water.
- Acid-Base Property: Neutral to weakly acidic; its aqueous solution is weakly acidic due to slight hydrolysis, and hydrolysis is stable under neutral conditions.
- Hydrolysis: Stable under neutral conditions; undergoes slow hydrolysis in water to generate titanium-containing hydrolysis products; hydrolysis rate accelerates under extreme acid-base conditions.
- Photostability: Relatively stable to light, but long-term exposure to strong ultraviolet light may affect its stability and cause slight discoloration.
- Reactivity: Serves as a source of Cp?Ti2?, and chloride ions can be displaced by a variety of nucleophiles; can be used as a single-electron reducing agent and catalyst, suitable for C-H activation, radical addition, cyclization, coupling and other reactions; can react with alkyl aluminum to form Ziegler-Natta polymerization catalysts.

(Complete structural diagram can be provided separately on request)
Applications
- Organic synthesis catalyst: Used as a high-efficiency homogeneous catalyst, widely applied in olefin polymerization, hydrogenation reactions, radical addition, cyclization, coupling and dehalogenation reactions; can mediate radical reactions to construct complex cyclic molecules and asymmetric carbon skeletons.
- Pharmaceutical research: Has anti-tumor activity, and is the first non-platinum complex to enter clinical trials as a chemotherapeutic drug, used in the research of anti-tumor drug development.
- Polymer synthesis: As an important component of the Ziegler-Natta catalytic system, it can catalyze the coordination polymerization of ethylene, propylene and α-olefins, and is used in the synthesis of functional polyolefins.
- Biomedical research reagent: Suitable for organometallic chemistry research, catalytic mechanism research and pharmacological experiments.
- Fine chemical synthesis: Used in the one-pot synthesis of α-methylene-γ-butyrolactone, and in the hydrogenation of styrene-butadiene block copolymers (SBS) to prepare SEBS.
Storage & Handling
- Storage Condition: Store in a sealed container under inert gas atmosphere (such as nitrogen), placed in a cool, dry, dark and well-ventilated warehouse; away from direct sunlight, heat sources and moisture; avoid contact with air and water.
- Recommended Temperature: 2–8 ℃ for long-term storage (2 years); 20–25 ℃ for short-term (≤3 days) sealed storage under inert gas protection; avoid high temperature and rapid temperature changes.
- Packaging: Aluminum foil bag vacuum packaging (10g/50g/100g) or chemical standard drum (1kg/5kg), filled with inert gas for protection, moisture-proof and sealed to avoid contamination and contact with air.
- Precautions: Open the product in a dry inert gas atmosphere, and use dry utensils and low-moisture solvents; avoid inhalation of dust, direct contact with skin and eyes (may cause irritation and allergic reactions), and rinse with plenty of clean water immediately if contacted; wear protective equipment such as rubber gloves, protective glasses and dust masks during operation; it is a flammable chemical, use water or powder fire extinguisher in case of fire; waste disposal shall be carried out by hydrolysis or incineration in accordance with industrial waste regulations; store separately from oxidants and other reactive chemicals.
Description
Titanocene Dichloride (CAS: 1271-19-8) is a classic organotitanium metallocene compound with the chemical formula C??H??Cl?Ti (abbreviated as Cp?TiCl?). It is a bright red acicular crystalline solid with high purity (≥99.0% HPLC), which is air and moisture sensitive and slowly hydrolyzes in air. It has a distorted tetrahedral coordination geometry and exhibits excellent catalytic performance, widely used as a catalyst in organic synthesis and polymer synthesis. It also has anti-tumor activity and plays an important role in pharmaceutical research. Strict compliance with storage and handling requirements (inert gas protection, sealed and moisture-proof) is necessary to ensure the quality and stability of the product, and avoid decomposition caused by contact with air and water.
