Product Description
2,3,5,6-Tetramethyl-1,4-phenylenediamine (CAS: 3102-87-2), commonly known as Tetramethyl-p-phenylenediamine (TMPD), is an organic aromatic diamine compound with a benzene ring substituted by four methyl groups and two amino groups at the para positions. It appears as a pale yellow to light red crystalline powder or solid, with a characteristic amine-like odor. It has strong basicity and reducibility, and is prone to oxidation and discoloration when exposed to light or air, widely used in analytical chemistry, functional materials, and other fields.
Uses
Analytical Chemistry: It is mainly used as an oxidation-reduction indicator, electrochemical probe molecule, and free radical scavenger. Its reducibility and specific oxidation potential (+0.28V vs. SHE) make it suitable for redox titration and electrochemical analysis experiments, helping to determine the content of oxidants or reductants in samples.
Functional Materials Industry: Serves as a precursor for conductive polymers, an intermediate for dyes, and a component of photosensitive materials. It can also be used as an antioxidant and stabilizer, preventing spontaneous polymerization of peroxides in paints, coatings, and adhesives, and delaying the aging of materials such as rubber, polyesters, and fatty acid methyl esters.
Biological Detection: Used as a substrate for oxidases and a related reagent in mitochondrial research. It participates in the catalytic reaction of oxidases, generating detectable products, which is widely used in the detection of enzyme activity and related biological experiments.
