Product Description
Silibinin (CAS: 22888-70-6), also known as Silybin, is the principal biologically active constituent of the silymarin complex (accounting for 65–75%). It is a flavonolignan compound extracted from the dried fruits of the Asteraceae plant Silybum marianum (Milk Thistle). It appears as a pale yellow solid or crystalline powder, odorless, sparingly soluble in water and acetone, and soluble in DMSO and methanol. It has significant hepatoprotective, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory activities, widely used in pharmaceuticals, health products, and cosmetics.
Uses
Pharmaceutical: A key hepatoprotective drug, used for the treatment of acute and chronic hepatitis, initial cirrhosis, and toxic liver damage. It stabilizes liver cell membranes, promotes liver cell repair and regeneration, and reduces liver enzyme levels. It also shows inhibitory effects on the growth and differentiation of liver, prostate, and breast cancer cells.
Health Products & Nutrition: As a functional ingredient in health supplements, it helps protect liver function, prevent fatty liver, and enhance the body's antioxidant capacity, suitable for people with liver strain and alcohol-induced liver damage.
Other Uses: Used in cosmetics for skin conditioning and antioxidant effects. It also serves as an analytical standard in chemical and pharmaceutical research, and a model compound for studying flavonolignan pharmacology.
