Product Description
Aluminosilicate (CAS: 1318-02-1), also known as Sodium Aluminosilicate Hydrate or 4A Zeolite, is a class of inorganic compounds composed of aluminum, silicon, oxygen, and metal cations (primarily sodium), with a typical molecular formula of Na??[(AlO?)??(SiO?)??]·27H?O. It appears as a white solid powder or granular material, odorless and tasteless, with a unique three-dimensional network structure formed by silicon-oxygen and aluminum-oxygen tetrahedrons. This compound is environmentally friendly, non-toxic, and possesses excellent adsorption, ion exchange, and thermal stability properties, making it widely used in industrial production, material science, and environmental applications. It is most commonly recognized as 4A zeolite, a key material in adsorption, drying, and as a non-phosphorus detergent additive.
Uses
Adsorption & Drying Applications: Widely used as a desiccant and adsorbent for gases and liquids, capable of adsorbing molecules with a critical diameter not greater than 4?, such as water, ammonia, hydrogen sulfide, carbon dioxide, and ethanol. It is particularly valuable in the purification and refining of gases, including the production of argon. In addition, it serves as an adsorbent in water treatment and environmental purification processes due to its strong adsorption capacity.
Industrial & Material Applications: As an ideal non-phosphorus detergent additive, it is a substitute for sodium tripolyphosphate, with strong calcium ion exchange capacity and no pollution to the environment. It is also used as a filler in paints, rubber, plastics, and adhesives, improving the hardness, whiteness, wear resistance, and weather resistance of products. In the refractory materials industry, it is used in the production of high-temperature insulation materials, fiber castables, and refractory bricks, due to its excellent thermal stability.

- Chemical Structure: A cubic crystal system with a three-dimensional framework structure composed of silicon-oxygen (SiO?) and aluminum-oxygen (AlO?) tetrahedrons. The crystal cell center contains a cavity with a diameter of 1.14?, connected to six similar cavities through an 8-membered ring, forming a free cavity with a diameter of 4.12? (hence the name 4A zeolite). This porous structure endows it with excellent adsorption and ion exchange capabilities.
Physical & Chemical Properties
- Appearance: White solid powder or granules, odorless, tasteless, with good fluidity and no visible impurities.
- Density: 6.35 g/cm3; Melting Point: Relatively low, decomposes at high temperatures (varies with purity and crystal form).
- Solubility: Insoluble in water; soluble in strong acids and strong alkalis; incompatible with non-polar solvents.
- Boiling Point: Not available; Flash Point: 800 °C (related to its refractory properties).
- Stability: Excellent thermal stability and chemical stability; stable under normal temperature and dry conditions; resistant to high temperatures (up to 800 °C); avoid moisture and prolonged exposure to strong acids/alkalis.
- Toxicity: Non-toxic, non-carcinogenic, and non-irritating; safe for human contact and environmental exposure; no acute toxicity observed in animal experiments.
- pKa: Not available; LogP: Not available; PSA: Not available.
Synthesis & Storage
- Synthesis: Industrially prepared via multiple methods, including the water glass method, activated clay method, bentonite method, kaolin method, and coal gangue method. The water glass method is mature and easy to control but has high costs, while the kaolin and coal gangue methods utilize raw materials with a suitable aluminum-silicon ratio, requiring high-temperature roasting to convert into metakaolin, followed by hydrothermal crystallization in sodium hydroxide solution.
- Storage: Sealed in airtight containers; stored in a cool, dry, and clean warehouse; avoid moisture and direct sunlight. It should be separated from strong acids and strong alkalis; shelf life is 2–3 years under proper storage conditions.
- Safety: Operate in a well-ventilated environment; wear basic protective gear (gloves, goggles) to avoid dust inhalation and eye contact; wash thoroughly with soap and water after handling; dispose of waste in accordance with general industrial chemical waste regulations.
