Appearance
Yellow crystalline powder, odorless, with uniform particle size and no visible impurities. It has poor fluidity in dry state and is slightly easy to agglomerate when exposed to moisture, but does not undergo chemical changes after agglomeration. The color remains stable under normal storage conditions, without fading or darkening; it is insoluble in water and presents as yellow particles when mixed with water.
Physical Properties
Melting point: 217-218°C (lit.), decomposes slightly when heated above the melting point, and decomposes completely at high temperature. Boiling point: Predicted to be 631.5±55.0°C, but it decomposes before reaching the boiling point under atmospheric pressure, so there is no actual boiling phenomenon. Density: 1.491±0.06 g/cm3 (25°C, predicted), stable in solid state under normal temperature and pressure, and the density does not change significantly with environmental factors.
Solubility: Sparingly soluble in water, almost insoluble in cold water; slightly soluble in methanol, ethanol; easily soluble in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF); insoluble in chloroform, benzene and other non-polar organic solvents. The solubility in organic solvents increases slightly with the increase of temperature, and it is difficult to dissolve in most common solvents.
Other properties: It is stable in dry air, not easy to volatilize or sublimate; it has a certain stability to light, and will not fade quickly when stored in the dark, but long-term exposure to strong light may cause slight discoloration.
Chemical Properties
1. Hydrolysis: It can be hydrolyzed under acidic or alkaline conditions, and is completely converted into rhein (an active metabolite) through double deacetylation before entering the systemic circulation; the hydrolysis rate is accelerated under high temperature conditions.
2. Stability: Stable under normal temperature and dry conditions; unstable under strong acid, strong alkali or high temperature conditions, easy to decompose and lose activity. It is not easy to be oxidized by common oxidants, but can be oxidized by strong oxidants to form corresponding oxides.
3. Acidity: It is a weak organic acid, and its saturated aqueous solution is weakly acidic; it can react with strong bases to form corresponding salts, and the reaction is mild, without obvious exothermic phenomenon.
4. Incompatibility: Incompatible with strong oxidizing agents and strong alkalis; avoid mixed storage to prevent chemical reactions and loss of activity; it is stable when mixed with common pharmaceutical excipients.
Usage
1. Pharmaceutical field: It is an important interleukin (IL)-1 inhibitor, belonging to anthraquinone compounds, mainly used for the treatment of osteoarthritis (OA). It can induce cartilage formation, has analgesic, anti-inflammatory and antipyretic effects, improve joint function of osteoarthritis patients, delay the course of disease, and improve the quality of life of patients; it can also be used as a raw material for pharmaceutical preparations such as Diacerein capsules.
2. Biochemical reagent field: Used as a standard reagent and analytical reagent in biochemical experiments, such as the research on the mechanism of osteoarthritis, the detection of drug metabolism pathways, and the screening of related drug intermediates; it is also used as a reference substance for drug content detection.
3. Industrial field: Used as an intermediate in the synthesis of organic compounds, especially in the synthesis of pharmaceutical derivatives and fine chemicals; it is also used in the research and development of new liquid crystal polymers, high-performance high-strength fibers and engineering plastics.
4. Storage
Store in a sealed container, keep away from light, heat and moisture; store in a cool, dry and well-ventilated warehouse, the recommended storage temperature is 15-25°C, and refrigerated storage is preferred to maintain stability. It should be stored separately from oxidants, strong alkalis and other incompatible substances, and should not be mixed for storage; avoid long-term exposure to air and moisture to prevent agglomeration and decomposition. The storage period can reach 2 years under proper storage conditions.

Safety Precautions
