Appearance
Colorless to light yellow viscous liquid, with a pungent odor, uniform texture and no visible impurities. It is a viscous liquid at room temperature, with good fluidity, and the viscosity decreases slightly with the increase of temperature. The 95% purity product has a relatively stable color, and may turn slightly darker when exposed to air or moisture, which is a sign of slight decomposition. It does not mix with water and will react when in contact with water, so it must be kept away from moisture during storage and use.
Melting point: Not specified, it exists as a viscous liquid at room temperature and does not have a clear melting process. Boiling point: 180-184°C under 10mm reduced pressure, with high boiling point, and decomposes when heated to high temperature under atmospheric pressure, producing toxic and irritating gases.
Density: 1.1 g/mL at 25°C, measured liquid density, stable under standard temperature conditions, and the density does not change significantly with small temperature fluctuations. Solubility: Reacts with water and cannot be dissolved in water; easily soluble in ether, chloroform, dichloromethane and other organic solvents; slightly soluble in ethanol, and the solubility in organic solvents is stable.
Other properties: It has a refractive index of n20/D 1.501; vapor pressure is 0.000112mmHg at 25°C, low volatility under normal temperature and pressure, but the vapor is irritating; it is sensitive to air and moisture, and is easy to decompose when exposed to air and moisture, so it needs to be stored in a sealed and dry environment; flash point is 163.6°C, non-flammable but corrosive.
Chemical Properties
1. Reactivity with Water: Reacts violently with water (R14) to produce irritating and corrosive substances, so it must be kept away from moisture during handling and storage, and avoid contact with aqueous solutions.
2. Stability: Stable under dry and air-isolated conditions; sensitive to air and moisture, easy to decompose when exposed to air and moisture; stable to weak oxidants, but incompatible with strong oxidants; decomposes at high temperature, releasing toxic gases.
3. Reactivity: As an organophosphorus compound with P-Cl bond, it has high reaction activity, can undergo nucleophilic substitution reactions, and can also coordinate with metal centers; it can be used as an intermediate in organic synthesis, and can participate in the synthesis of various complex organophosphorus compounds.
4. Incompatibility: Incompatible with water, strong oxidizing agents and strong bases; avoid mixed storage with these substances to prevent violent reactions or decomposition; stable when mixed with non-polar organic solvents.
Usage
1. Organic Synthesis Field: As an important organophosphorus intermediate, it is widely used in the synthesis of complex organophosphorus compounds, pharmaceuticals, pesticides and fine chemicals; it can be used as a ligand in coordination chemistry, and can form complexes with various metal ions for catalytic reactions.
2. Pharmaceutical Field: Used as an intermediate in the synthesis of pharmaceutical compounds, especially in the synthesis of phosphorus-containing drugs with antibacterial, antiviral and anti-tumor activities; used as a standard substance for drug quality control and analysis.
3. Chemical Research Field: Used as a reagent in organic chemical research, such as the research on nucleophilic substitution reactions, coordination reactions and other reaction mechanisms; used as a reference substance in chemical analysis and detection.
4. Industrial Field: Used as an intermediate in the production of flame retardants, plastic additives and other industrial products; used in the synthesis of special functional materials, with high application value in the field of fine chemical industry (95% purity meets industrial and research use requirements).
Storage
Store in a sealed, airtight and moisture-proof container, keep away from air, moisture, light and heat; store in a cool, dry and well-ventilated warehouse, the recommended storage temperature is 2-8°C, and refrigerated storage is preferred. It should be stored separately from water, oxidants, strong bases and other incompatible substances, and should not be mixed for storage; avoid long-term exposure to air and moisture to prevent decomposition. The storage period can reach 1 year under proper storage conditions (95% purity needs to be sealed and isolated to maintain stability).
Safety Overview
Hazard Category: Corrosive (C); Air & Moisture Sensitive; Hazardous class 8, Packing Group II; Causes severe skin burns and eye damage (H314); Reacts violently with water (R14); Hazardous transport number UN 3265 8/PG III. It is for professional organic synthesis, pharmaceutical manufacturing, chemical research and industrial use only; not for human consumption, and strictly prohibited from contact with food and drinking water.
Safety Precautions
1. Personal Protection: Wear full-body protective clothing, acid and alkali resistant gloves, safety goggles and face shield when handling; avoid direct contact with skin, eyes and respiratory tract; ensure the operation area is fully ventilated, and use in a fume hood if possible to avoid inhalation of vapor.
2. Emergency Handling: If contact with skin, immediately rinse thoroughly with plenty of flowing water for 15-20 minutes, remove contaminated clothing, and seek medical advice immediately; if contact with eyes, rinse cautiously with water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if present) and continue rinsing, seek medical advice immediately; if inhaled, move to fresh air immediately, keep the respiratory tract unobstructed, and seek medical advice if discomfort occurs; if swallowed, do not induce vomiting, call a poison center or doctor immediately.
3. Fire & Spill: Non-flammable; use dry powder, foam or carbon dioxide fire extinguishing agents in case of fire, and avoid using water to put out fire (reacts violently with water); if spilled, isolate the contaminated area, wear protective equipment, collect the spilled liquid with dry and clean tools, put it into a sealed container for proper disposal, and avoid contact with water and entry into drains or water courses.
4. Disposal: Dispose of waste and packaging in accordance with local environmental and hazardous waste regulations; do not discard at will; waste must be treated by professional hazardous waste disposal institutions to avoid environmental pollution and personal injury.
