Basic Properties
Appearance: Colorless to pale yellow transparent oily liquid, odorless, with uniform texture and no visible impurities. It has low viscosity, is neutral in nature, and remains transparent even at low temperatures (below 0°C) without solidification. Its appearance is stable, and it will not turn turbid, precipitate or discolor under proper storage conditions, which is a typical characteristic of medium-chain glycerides.
Solubility: Insoluble in water; easily soluble in ethanol, isopropanol, chloroform, glycerol and most organic solvents; soluble in various lipids in cosmetics and food. It has good compatibility with lipids, vitamins and organic substances, and can be used as a solvent, diluent or emulsifier stabilizer due to its ability to exist between oil and water phases.
Other properties: It has a refractive index of n20/D 1.4400-1.4510 (25°C, lit.); acid value ≤0.10 mgKOH/g, saponification value 325.0-345.0, iodine value ≤0.5; purity is usually ≥98% for industrial and food-grade use; it has no obvious corrosive effect on common metals and plastics, and has good stability in neutral and weak acid environments.
Chemical Properties
1. Stability: Stable under normal temperature and pressure; stable to light, heat and oxygen; not easy to hydrolyze or oxidize, and can be stored for a long time under proper conditions without obvious deterioration. It has good stability in low-temperature environments and will not crystallize or solidify, and can maintain fluidity normally.
2. Reactivity: As a mixture of medium-chain glycerides, it has typical ester properties and can undergo hydrolysis reactions under the action of acids, bases or enzymes to generate octanoic acid, decanoic acid and glycerol. It has no obvious chemical reactivity under normal use conditions, and its unique medium-chain structure makes it have the characteristics of fast metabolism and no accumulation in the human body.
3. Incompatibility: Incompatible with strong oxidizing agents and strong bases; avoid mixed storage with these substances to prevent hydrolysis or decomposition; stable when mixed with common organic solvents, food additives, cosmetic raw materials and pharmaceutical excipients, and has good compatibility.
Usage
1. Food Industry: Used as a food additive (emulsifier, diluent, solvent and oil base), widely used in chocolate, dairy products, beverages, bakery products and sports foods. It can improve the texture of chocolate, control frosting, reduce slurry viscosity, and improve processing performance; in sports foods, it can provide energy quickly, accelerate fatigue recovery, and save protein consumption.
2. Cosmetics Industry: Used as a base oil, emollient and solvent in cosmetics, suitable for skin care products, makeup, hair care products, etc. It has good skin compatibility, can form a protective film on the skin surface to prevent water loss, and has a moisturizing and nourishing effect; it should be used with caution by oily and acne-prone skin due to potential comedogenicity.
3. Pharmaceutical Industry: Used as a pharmaceutical excipient (solvent, diluent, emulsifier), used in the preparation of oral preparations, topical preparations and injections. It can improve the solubility of fat-soluble drugs, promote drug absorption, and is also used in the treatment of fat metabolism disorders due to its good biocompatibility and fast metabolism characteristics.
4. Other Fields: Used as a lubricant in food processing equipment, in line with food safety standards; used as a raw material for the synthesis of other esters, and also used in feed additives to improve the fat absorption capacity of animals.
Storage
Store in a sealed container, keep away from light, moisture and air; store in a cool, dry and well-ventilated warehouse, the recommended storage temperature is 5-35°C. It should be stored separately from strong oxidizing agents and strong bases, and should not be mixed for storage; avoid long-term exposure to open flames and high temperature to prevent oxidation and deterioration. The storage period can reach 1-2 years under proper storage conditions; the common packaging includes 1kg, 5kg, 25kg/drum, 200kg/drum, suitable for food, cosmetic and pharmaceutical production and laboratory use.

Safety Precautions
1. Personal Protection: Wear disposable gloves when handling (to avoid contamination of food/cosmetics/pharmaceuticals); no special protective equipment is required under normal operation; ensure adequate ventilation in the operation area, and wash hands thoroughly after handling.
2. Emergency Handling: If contact with skin, wipe clean with a clean cloth, no special treatment is required; if contact with eyes, rinse with plenty of flowing water for 5-10 minutes, and seek medical advice if discomfort occurs; if swallowed, drink plenty of water to dilute, and call a poison center or doctor if feeling unwell (usually no obvious toxic reaction).
3. Fire & Spill: Moderate flammability; use dry powder, foam or carbon dioxide fire extinguishing agents in case of fire; if spilled, isolate the contaminated area, collect the spilled liquid with dry and clean tools, put it into a sealed container for proper disposal, and avoid entering drains or water courses to prevent environmental pollution.
4. Disposal: Dispose of waste and packaging in accordance with local environmental regulations; do not discard at will; waste can be properly treated as general industrial waste if it does not contain other harmful substances; transport in accordance with general chemical transportation regulations, avoid mixing with incompatible substances during transportation.
