Shandong Huashang Chemical Co., Ltd. is a high-tech enterprise specializing in the research and development, manufacturing, and sales of fine chemicals. Headquartered in Jinan, Shandong, China, we are committed to delivering high-quality products to our global partners. Currently, over 90% of our products are exported to developed markets, including North America, Europe, Japan, South Korea, and the Middle East.
Basic Properties
Appearance: Light yellow to yellowish-brown solid with a faint resinous odor; uniform texture, no visible impurities. Graded as WW (water-white), WG, or X based on color. Brittle at room temperature, softens when heated, and becomes viscous liquid above the softening point.
Solubility: Insoluble in water; slightly soluble in methanol/ethanol; freely soluble in chloroform, acetone, ethyl acetate, toluene, and mineral oils. Compatible with most organic resins, waxes, and elastomers.
Other properties: High thermal stability; resistant to oxidation and aging under normal conditions. Hardness and brittleness increase with higher resin acid content. Typical purity ≥98% for industrial grades; low insoluble content in methylbenzene (≤0.03%).
Chemical Properties
1. Stability: Stable at ambient temperature and pressure; light- and heat-resistant. Oxidizes slowly under prolonged exposure to air/UV, darkening color. Stable in neutral/weakly acidic environments; avoid strong oxidizers and strong bases.
2. Reactivity: Contains carboxylic acid groups (-COOH) and unsaturated double bonds. Reacts with alcohols to form esters (e.g., glycerol/pentaerythritol esters); undergoes hydrogenation, disproportionation, and polymerization. Reacts with bases to form water-soluble rosin soaps.
3. Incompatibility: Incompatible with strong oxidizing agents (e.g., peroxides, permanganates) and strong bases. Avoid mixing with these substances to prevent decomposition or hazardous reactions.
Usage
1. Adhesives & Sealants: Used as a tackifier in hot-melt adhesives, pressure-sensitive adhesives, and rubber compounds; improves adhesion, cohesion, and thermal stability.
2. Coatings & Inks: Enhances gloss, hardness, and weather resistance in alkyd resins, varnishes, and printing inks; used in road marking paints and anti-corrosion coatings.
3. Paper & Packaging: Sizing agent for paper/paperboard; improves water resistance and strength. Used in emulsion stabilizers and coating binders.
4. Rubber & Polymers: Processing aid and tackifier in synthetic rubber (e.g., SBR, NR); improves filler dispersion and green strength. Used in tire manufacturing and rubber products.
5. Electronic & Industrial: Fluxing agent for electronic soldering; removes oxides and improves wetting. Intermediate for disproportionated rosin and hydrogenated rosin.
Storage
Store in sealed, dry containers in a cool, dry, well-ventilated warehouse (5–30°C). Keep away from direct sunlight, moisture, and heat sources. Store separately from strong oxidizers and strong bases; avoid open flames. Typical storage life: 1–2 years. Packaging: 225kg galvanized iron drums.
Safety Overview
Hazard Category: Skin sensitizer (may cause allergic skin reactions); low acute toxicity. No severe acute hazards under normal industrial use. ACGIH TLV: 0.001 mg/m3 (inhalable resin acid particulates).
Safety Precautions
1. Personal Protection: Wear nitrile gloves, safety goggles, and dust mask when handling. Ensure adequate ventilation; avoid prolonged inhalation of dust. Wash hands thoroughly after handling.
2. Emergency Handling: Skin contact: Wash with soap and water; remove contaminated clothing. Eye contact: Rinse with plenty of water for 15 minutes; seek medical advice if irritation persists. Inhalation: Move to fresh air; seek medical advice if coughing/difficulty breathing. Ingestion: Do not induce vomiting; drink water and seek medical advice.
3. Fire & Spill: Use dry powder, foam, or CO? extinguishers. Spill: Isolate area; collect solid material with clean tools into sealed containers; avoid discharge to drains/waterways.
4. Disposal: Dispose of waste in accordance with local environmental regulations. Recycle if possible; incinerate residual waste in licensed facilities. Transport as general chemical; avoid mixing with incompatible substances.
