Basic Properties
White to colorless crystalline powder (trihydrate: flaky crystals), odorless or slightly sulfur-containing, uniform without impurities. Freely soluble in water (alkaline, pH 8-10), soluble in methanol/ethanol/acetone, insoluble in ether/benzene; decomposes in acidic conditions. It is a dithiocarbamate metal chelating agent, which can form stable complexes with copper, zinc and other metal ions.
Chemical Properties
Stable in dry, dark and alkaline environments; decomposes in strong light, high temperature (≥100°C) or acidic conditions (pH < 5), releasing toxic carbon disulfide. The core group (-NCSS-) can chelate with metal ions, react with strong oxidants, and hydrolyze in acid; incompatible with strong acids, strong oxidants and heavy metal salts.
Main Applications
1. Analytical Reagent: Used for determination and separation of copper, zinc, cobalt and other metal ions. 2. Industrial Additive: Metal chelating agent in water treatment/electroplating, rubber vulcanization accelerator and antioxidant. 3. Pharmaceutical & Biological: Immune enhancer and spin trap agent in biological research. 4. Other: Pesticide intermediate, fungicide and metal surface treatment agent.
Storage
Store in sealed, dry, dark and cool containers (15-30°C), away from sunlight, heat and moisture. Store separately from strong acids, oxidants and heavy metal salts. Unopened shelf life: 2 years; seal immediately after opening and use as soon as possible.
Safety Overview
Hazard Category: Harmful, Corrosive, Environmental Hazard. Hazard Statements: H302, H314, H410. Low acute toxicity but corrosive to skin and eyes.
Safety Precautions
1. Personal Protection: Wear chemical-resistant gloves, goggles and protective clothing; avoid eating, drinking and smoking during operation. 2. Emergency Handling: Rinse skin/eyes with plenty of water immediately after contact; seek medical advice promptly. 3. Special Notes: Avoid contact with strong acids and water sources (toxic to aquatic life). 4. Fire & Spill: Non-flammable; collect spilled solids and dispose of properly. 5. Disposal & Transportation: Dispose in accordance with regulations; transport as hazardous goods (UN 3077 9/PG 3).
