Product Description
2-Amino-4,6-dichloropyrimidine (CAS: 56-05-3), also known as 4,6-Dichloropyrimidin-2-ylamine or 4,6-Dichloro-2-pyrimidinamine, is an important heterocyclic aromatic intermediate with the molecular formula C?H?Cl?N?. It appears as a white crystalline solid, and industrial products are usually pale yellow solids. With high reactivity due to the chlorine atoms and amino group in its structure, it is widely used in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals, pesticides, and fine chemicals, serving as a key building block for various bioactive compounds.
Uses
Pharmaceutical Industry: Used as a critical intermediate in the synthesis of various pharmaceutical compounds, including antiviral, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory drugs. It is particularly valuable in the preparation of pyrimidine-based pharmaceuticals due to its easy functional group modification.
Pesticide Industry: A key raw material for the synthesis of sulfonylurea herbicides, such as bensulfuron-methyl, chlorimuron-ethyl, tetrazosulfuron, and pyrazosulfuron-ethyl. These herbicides are widely used in agricultural production for effective weed control in crops like rice, wheat, and cotton.
Fine Chemicals & Intermediates: Serves as an important intermediate for preparing other pyrimidine derivatives, such as 2-amino-4,6-dimethoxypyrimidine and 2-amino-4-methoxy-6-chloropyrimidine, which are further applied in the production of dyes, pigments, and organic electronic materials.
Biochemical Research: Used as a research reagent and synthetic intermediate in laboratory studies to explore the synthesis pathways of heterocyclic compounds and the structure-activity relationship of pyrimidine-based bioactive molecules.

Synthesis & Storage
- Synthesis: The main industrial synthesis method involves the chlorination reaction of 2-amino-4,6-dihydroxypyrimidine. Specifically, 2-amino-4,6-dihydroxypyrimidine, phosphorus oxychloride, and dichloroethane are added to a reaction kettle, heated to 80°C, then a solution of triethylamine and dichloroethane is added dropwise (dropwise time ≥1 hour), followed by refluxing the mixture at 80–84°C for 2 hours, dissolving in water, filtering, washing with water, and drying to obtain the finished product.
- Storage: Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated warehouse at 15–25°C; keep tightly sealed in moisture-proof and light-resistant containers to prevent moisture absorption and contamination. Packed in 10g, 50g, 250g sealed glass bottles (laboratory grade) or 25kg cardboard drums lined with polyethylene bags (industrial grade). Avoid direct sunlight, high temperature (>30°C), and contact with oxidants, strong acids, and strong bases; keep away from food, feed, and children. Shelf life: 24 months if unopened and stored properly.
- Handling Precautions: Use in a well-ventilated fume hood; wear nitrile gloves, chemical-resistant goggles, protective clothing, and a dust mask. It is irritating to the eyes, respiratory tract, and skin (GHS07). Avoid inhalation of dust, skin, and eye contact. In case of skin contact, rinse thoroughly with plenty of water for 15 minutes; in case of eye contact, flush with water for 15 minutes and seek medical attention immediately. In case of ingestion, do not induce vomiting and seek medical attention promptly. Dispose of waste in accordance with local regulations; package and treat as hazardous waste, do not discharge directly into the environment or sewers.
