Physical & Chemical Properties
- Appearance: Clear, pale yellow to reddish viscous oil, nearly odorless, free of visible impurities, slightly viscous at room temperature, no sediment or turbidity.
- Melting Point: 2.5–3.5℃ (literature value); remains liquid at room temperature (20–25℃), solidifies when cooled below 2℃.
- Boiling Point: 200–220℃ (at 0.1 mmHg); decomposes at high temperature (above 250℃) under atmospheric pressure, releasing volatile organic compounds.
- Solubility: Practically insoluble in water (solubility <0.1 g/100 mL at 25℃); freely soluble in acetone, anhydrous ethanol, methylene chloride, ether, chloroform, and fatty oils; soluble in vegetable oils and mineral oils; miscible with most organic solvents.
- Stability: Stable under anaerobic conditions and dark storage; sensitive to light, air, and strong oxidants; prone to oxidation and darkening (turning dark yellow or brown) when exposed to light or air; incompatible with strong oxidizing agents, iron salts, and silver salts, which accelerate oxidation; stable under weak acid conditions, unstable under alkaline conditions.
- Density: 0.95 g/mL (25℃); Flash Point: 253℃ (closed cup); Refractive Index: 1.505 (n20/D); Vapor Pressure: 4.59×10?1? mmHg (25℃); LogP: 8.84 (20℃); Specific Rotation: +24° (c=2, in isooctane, 25℃); Viscosity: 37–45 mPa·s (25℃).
Uses
Vitamin E is an essential fat-soluble vitamin with powerful antioxidant properties, widely used in food, pharmaceutical, cosmetic, feed, and biochemical industries. As a key antioxidant, it protects cell membranes from oxidative damage, scavenges free radicals, inhibits lipid peroxidation, and delays aging. In the food industry, it serves as a nutritional fortifier (supplementing vitamin E content) and natural preservative, widely added to edible oils, margarines, baked goods, dairy products, and processed foods to extend shelf life and improve nutritional value. In pharmaceuticals, it is used in oral supplements, injections, and topical preparations for its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and skin-protective effects, helping to alleviate oxidative stress-related diseases. In cosmetics, it acts as a moisturizer, anti-aging agent, and skin repair agent, added to lotions, creams, serums, and sunscreens to improve skin elasticity and reduce fine lines. Additionally, it is used as a feed additive for livestock and poultry to enhance immunity and promote growth, and as a laboratory reagent for biochemical research and antioxidant activity detection.
Packaging & Storage
Packaging: Available in 5g/10g/25g amber glass bottles (light-proof, sealed with nitrogen) for laboratory use, 1kg/5kg aluminum cans (airtight, light-proof) for small-batch industrial use, and 25kg/50kg food-grade stainless steel drums (light-proof, airtight, nitrogen-filled) for industrial bulk orders. All packages are clearly labeled with product name, CAS number, purity, molecular formula, net weight, production date, shelf life, and storage requirements. Storage: Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated warehouse at 2–8℃, away from light, air, high temperature, and open flames. Keep tightly sealed and filled with inert gas (nitrogen) to prevent oxidation and darkening. Avoid storing with strong oxidants, iron salts, and silver salts. Shelf life is 18 months under proper storage; do not use beyond expiration. Avoid violent collision during transportation to prevent package damage; keep away from rain, direct sunlight, and high-temperature environments.
