- Melting Point: 106–108℃ (223–226°F; 379–381 K); decomposes at 120–122℃; loses crystal water at 115℃, becomes anhydrous at 130℃.
- Boiling Point: 130℃ (decomposition, atmospheric pressure); no boiling phenomenon before decomposition, decomposes gradually at high temperatures.
- Solubility: Freely soluble in water (374 g/L at 20℃); insoluble in most organic solvents such as ethanol, ether, chloroform; soluble in aqueous alkali solution; liquid grade (40% aqueous solution) is miscible with water in any proportion.
- Stability: Stable under normal storage conditions; incompatible with strong acids, oxidants; highly hygroscopic, discolors on prolonged exposure to air; decomposes when encountering strong acids to produce toxic gases.
- Key Parameters: Density 1.17–1.18 g/cm3 (20℃, solid); 1.06 g/cm3 (20℃, 40% aqueous solution); Flash Point 32℃ (closed cup), low flammability; pH 8.5–12.5 (1% aqueous solution, 25℃), alkaline range.
Uses
Sodium dimethyldithiocarbamate (SDDC) is a versatile organic sulfur compound with wide applications in multiple industries. As an ultra-accelerator in the rubber industry, it is mainly used for the vulcanization of natural and synthetic latices (SBR, NBR, CR) and dry rubber compounding, which can significantly shorten vulcanization time, improve rubber elasticity, strength and wear resistance, but it has high reactivity and is prone to scorch (premature vulcanization) if not controlled properly. It serves as an efficient heavy metal chelating agent and precipitant in industrial wastewater treatment (electroplating, printing and dyeing, electrolytic manganese/zinc industry), garbage, and heavy metal-contaminated soil remediation, which can react with heavy metal ions (copper, lead, cadmium, mercury, arsenic, chromium, etc.) to form stable chelate precipitates, effectively removing heavy metal pollutants from the environment[5]. It is an important intermediate for the synthesis of fungicides such as thiram, ferbam, amobam, ziram and nickel dimethyldithiocarbamate. In addition, it is used as a latex terminator for emulsion polymerized styrene-butadiene rubber, nitrile rubber and their latices to control the polymerization reaction process; it also acts as an industrial bactericide and algicide in circulating cooling water, a soil disinfectant in agriculture, a mineral processing agent, a lubricating oil additive and a mildew inhibitor for varnished cloths.
Packaging & Storage
Packaging: Solid grade: 25kg woven bags lined with PE film (moisture-proof), labeled with "hygroscopic" and GHS hazard information; Liquid grade (40% aqueous solution): 200L corrosion-resistant plastic drums or IBC containers, labeled with "irritant" identification and product details. Storage: Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated warehouse with temperature below 20℃ and relative humidity ≤65%; keep tightly sealed, protected from moisture and light; shelf life is 12 months under specified storage conditions. Keep away from acids, oxidants, fire and heat sources; it is strictly prohibited to mix with acidic substances for transportation; avoid leakage during storage and transportation. During operation, wear protective masks and gloves, avoid inhaling the odor; use in a fume hood with appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE); if leaked, neutralize with alkaline water (sodium carbonate solution) and then rinse with clean water; if it comes into contact with the skin, rinse immediately with plenty of water; if accidentally ingested, seek medical attention immediately.
