Uses
Methylurea (CAS: 598-50-5) is a versatile organic compound with wide applications in organic synthesis, pharmaceutical manufacturing, pesticide production, and chemical research. As an important methylating reagent and organic building block, it is widely used in the synthesis of various pharmaceutical and pesticide intermediates, especially in the preparation of carbamate insecticides and fungicides. In the pharmaceutical industry, it serves as a key raw material for drug synthesis and is also used as a model compound in cancer research, as it can undergo alkylation reactions with DNA molecules to help study tumor occurrence and development. In agricultural applications, it can be used as a slow-release nitrogen fertilizer, providing sustained nutrient supply for crops. Additionally, it acts as a catalyst, solvent or reactant in organic synthesis reactions, and is widely used in laboratory research and industrial production, meeting high-purity standards for various application scenarios.
Packaging & Storage
Packaging: Laboratory grade: 100g/500g amber glass bottles (sealed with Teflon gaskets) to prevent moisture and volatilization; Industrial grade: 1kg/25kg/1000kg corrosion-resistant HDPE plastic drums or fiber drums, labeled with "flammable", "irritant" and GHS hazard information (including hazard codes R20/21/22, R37, R68 and safety instructions S22, S36, S45, S36/37), and marked with product name, CAS number, purity, storage conditions and related safety information. Storage: Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated warehouse at 2–8°C (refrigerated storage); keep tightly sealed, protected from moisture, air and light; avoid contact with strong oxidants, strong acids and strong bases; it is recommended to store in an argon-filled environment; shelf life is 12 months under specified storage conditions[5]. Keep away from fire, heat sources and open flames during storage and transportation; low-temperature transportation is required[5]. Wear chemical-resistant gloves, goggles and protective masks during operation; use in a fume hood to avoid inhalation of dust or vapor and contact with skin and eyes; the vapor and dust of methylurea are irritating to the eyes and skin; do not inhale dust/mist; wash skin thoroughly after handling; if it comes into contact with the skin, rinse immediately with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes; if accidentally ingested, rinse mouth and do not induce vomiting; if splashed into eyes, rinse carefully with water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily removable) and continue rinsing, then seek medical attention immediately; properly dispose of residual contents and containers as industrial waste.
