- Density: 1.055-1.057 g/cm3 (20°C); stable density under normal temperature and pressure, easy to measure and control.
- Refractive Index (n?): 1.44 (20°C); stable under standard test conditions, consistent with the characteristics of organosilane compounds.
- Flash Point: 96°C; belongs to flammable liquid (Category 4), needs to be away from fire sources during storage and use.
- Solubility: Insoluble in water but hydrolyzes/reacts slowly over time; easily soluble in alcohols, ketones, aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons; miscible with most organic solvents used in industrial production.
- Stability: Stable under ambient temperature and pressure (below 30°C storage recommended); sensitive to air and moisture, easy to hydrolyze when exposed to water; incompatible with strong oxidizing agents; no polymerization under normal storage conditions, but needs to avoid long-term exposure to high temperature and humidity.
- Key Parameters: Purity ≥95.0% (GC); Ignition Temperature: 235°C; Vapor Pressure: <7 hPa (20°C); Free Mercaptan: ≤0.5%.
Uses
Trimethoxysilylpropanethiol (CAS 4420-74-0) is a key organosilane coupling agent with a thiol functional group, widely used in material modification, chemical synthesis, petroleum, environmental protection and other fields. In material modification, it is mainly used as a surface modifier for inorganic fillers (such as glass fiber, white carbon black, quartz powder, kaolin) to improve the compatibility and adhesion between inorganic materials and organic polymers (epoxy resin, polyvinyl chloride, polystyrene, polyurethane, rubber, etc.), thereby enhancing the mechanical properties, wear resistance and aging resistance of composite materials, and reducing permanent deformation of rubber products. In the field of metal surface treatment, it can be used to treat the surface of gold, silver, copper and other metals, improving their corrosion resistance, oxidation resistance and adhesion to polymer materials. In chemical synthesis, it serves as an important intermediate, used in the synthesis of organosilicon compounds, self-assembled monolayers (SAMs), and can be used as a reagent for immobilizing nanoparticles. In the petroleum industry, it can be used as a silica nanofluid to modify the surface of sandstone, improving the enhanced oil recovery (EOR) effect. Additionally, it can be used as an absorbent for removing heavy metals from wastewater when combined with kaolin, and as a curing agent and UV initiator for epoxy resin; it is also widely used in coatings, inks, adhesives, sealants and fabric anti-shrinking finishing agents.
Packaging & Storage
Packaging: Laboratory grade: 100ml, 500ml brown glass bottles with sealed caps to prevent moisture absorption, light exposure and volatilization; industrial grade: 25kg HDPE barrels or 200kg steel drums with inner PE liners, labeled with product name, CAS number, batch number, manufacturing date, expiry date, hazard information and storage precautions. Storage: Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated warehouse below 30°C, keep tightly closed to prevent moisture absorption, volatilization and air contamination; protect from light, separate from strong oxidizing agents, fire sources and heat sources; do not mix with toxic, harmful and incompatible substances; avoid long-term exposure to high temperature and humidity, and prevent hydrolysis reaction. Shelf life: 24 months under recommended storage conditions, and the product should be used as soon as possible after opening. Transportation: Classified as UN 3082, Hazard Class 9, Packaging Class III; avoid transportation under high temperature, strong light and rain; prevent collision and damage to packaging; do not transport together with incompatible substances; keep cool during transportation in summer, and avoid leakage during transportation. Handling: Operate in a well-ventilated area, wear protective gloves, goggles and anti-chemical protective clothing; avoid inhalation of vapor, mist and contact with skin, eyes and mucous membranes; wash skin thoroughly with soap and water after contact; if splashed into eyes, rinse with flowing water for 10-15 minutes and seek medical help; if swallowed, call a poison center or doctor immediately; if there is leakage, collect with clean tools and properly dispose of waste, and avoid release to the environment to prevent harm to aquatic organisms.
