Benzathine benzylpenicillin is a white or off-white crystalline powder, odorless, tasteless, and practically insoluble in water, ethanol, chloroform and ether; slightly soluble in dimethylformamide, and soluble in dilute acids and dilute alkalis. Its pKa value is 5.1 (predicted), showing weak acidity. It is stable under normal temperature and pressure, but is sensitive to heat, moisture and light—long-term exposure to high temperature (above 200°C) or humidity may cause decomposition, and light exposure may lead to reduced activity. Its density is 1.32±0.06 g/cm3 (25°C, predicted), melting point is 129-133°C (melting with decomposition), and vapor pressure is <0.0001 mmHg at 25°C with a LogP of 4.8 at 20°C. Main Uses

Benzathine benzylpenicillin is a long-acting penicillin antibiotic, which can slowly release benzylpenicillin after intramuscular injection, maintaining effective blood drug concentration for a long time. It has broad-spectrum antibacterial activity and is mainly used in the prevention and treatment of bacterial infections, as well as related research fields:

Pharmaceutical Industry: Used as a raw material for long-acting antibacterial drugs, mainly used for the prevention of rheumatic fever recurrence, treatment of all stages of syphilis, and control of the prevalence of streptococcal infections. It is also used for the long-term preventive administration of patients with rheumatic heart disease and rheumatic fever. It cannot replace penicillin G for the treatment of severe acute infections, and is clinically made into injectable powders for intramuscular injection.
Injection Preparation: Key raw material for the synthesis of injectable benzathine benzylpenicillin preparations (injection powders), with specifications including 300,000 U, 600,000 U, and 1.2 million U. It is used to produce high-purity injectable formulations that meet international pharmacopoeia standards (USP/ChP), ensuring drug efficacy and clinical safety.

Storage Method

Store in a cool, dry, dark, and well-ventilated warehouse at a temperature of 2-8°C (refrigerated storage recommended).
