Main Uses

• Pharmaceutical Field: Used as an anticholinergic agent and muscarinic acetylcholine receptor antagonist (IC50=55.3 nm), listed as an essential medicine by the World Health Organization; effective for preventing motion sickness (often used as transdermal patch behind the ear) and treating postoperative nausea and vomiting; used as a premedication to reduce respiratory tract and saliva secretions during surgery; also applicable to relieving gastrointestinal, kidney and liver spasms, treating eye inflammation and irritable bowel syndrome, and relieving clozapine-induced drooling
• Medical Treatment: Applied in gastrointestinal radiology and endoscopy examinations to assist in diagnosis; can be used as an antidote for organophosphate intoxication; administered via oral, transdermal, ophthalmic, subcutaneous, intravenous and other routes, with effects lasting up to 8 hours after injection
• Biochemical & Medical Research: Used to induce memory impairment models in pharmacological studies; serves as a biochemical reagent for studying cholinergic nervous system mechanisms and 5-HT3 receptor inhibition; used in research on the mechanism of antimuscarinic drugs
• Other Fields: Used in the synthesis of other active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs); applied in veterinary medicine for similar antiemetic and antispasmodic purposes; historically used for recreational and occult purposes due to its mind-altering effects at high doses
