Physical Properties
- Appearance: Black solid or semi-solid at normal temperature; viscous liquid after heating
- Odor: Special petroleum tar odor, obvious volatile irritating smell under heating
- Solubility: Soluble in gasoline, kerosene, xylene, toluene, dichloromethane; insoluble in water, ethanol
- Softening point: Different grades range from 30 ℃ ~ 150 ℃
- Hygroscopy: Non-hygroscopic
- Aqueous property: Completely insoluble in water, neutral oily mixture
Chemical Properties
- Composition characteristics: Complex mixture of high-molecular alkane, cycloalkane and aromatic derivatives, contains a small amount of sulfur, nitrogen, oxygen heteroatom compounds
- Thermal fluidity: No fixed melting point, gradually softens and flows when heated; high temperature above 300 ℃ cracks and volatilizes to produce flammable tar vapor
- Oxidation aging: Long-term exposure to air, sunlight will oxidize and harden, brittle, crack, lose adhesion
- Combustion performance: Flammable, incomplete combustion produces black soot and toxic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons
- Compatibility: Miscible with other petroleum oils, rosin, rubber; incompatible with strong oxidants, concentrated nitric acid

Safety Warning
Flammable oily mixture, heating volatile gas is irritating and contains polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons with potential health risks. Hot asphalt liquid can cause severe thermal burns; dust and volatile fumes irritate eyes, throat and skin, long-term contact easily causes skin dryness, dermatitis. Operation must be carried out in ventilated environment, wear heat-resistant gloves, protective goggles and dust-proof respirator. Strictly isolate open flame, static electricity during heating construction; fire uses dry powder, carbon dioxide fire extinguisher, water cannot extinguish asphalt fire. Waste asphalt belongs to hazardous petroleum waste, must be recycled and treated by professional hazardous waste disposal institutions, cannot be discarded arbitrarily.
