- Density: ~2.0 g/cm3
- Solubility: Freely soluble in water; slightly soluble in dilute ammonia solution; insoluble in ethanol, acetone, ether
- Stability: Hygroscopic; stable under sealed low-temperature storage; decomposes on heating, releases NH3, NOx toxic fumes; strong oxidizing property from nitrate group; reacts violently with reducing agents, organic matter, combustibles
Synthesis & Applications
Production Method
Palladium metal dissolves in nitric acid to generate palladium nitrate solution, excess concentrated ammonia water is added to precipitate and redissolve to form tetraamminepalladium(II) nitrate, recrystallized and dried.
Main Applications
- Electroplating industry: Main raw material for alkaline palladium plating solution, for electronic component plating, jewelry palladium plating
- Catalyst precursor: Raw material for preparing palladium supported catalysts
- Chemical analysis: Standard palladium reagent, precious metal separation and purification intermediate
- Electronic material manufacturing: Palladium circuit coating precursor
