Production Method
Reaction of methanol with metallic sodium, or dehydration reaction of methanol with sodium hydroxide under dehydrant, followed by vacuum drying to obtain solid product, or formulated into standard methanol solution.
Main Applications
- Biodiesel synthesis core catalyst: Ester exchange reaction catalyst for converting animal and vegetable oils into fatty acid methyl esters (biodiesel)
- Organic synthesis strong base catalyst: For ester exchange, condensation, alkylation and etherification reactions, such as synthesis of acrylates and polyesters
- Pharmaceutical intermediate synthesis: Raw material for production of vitamins, sulfonamides, antihistamines and other drugs
- Grease chemical industry: For oil ester exchange and modification, production of emulsifiers and surfactants
- Other applications: Precursor for synthesis of other alkoxides and organometallic compounds
