Chemical Properties

1. Super strong electrophilic sulfonylating reagent, stronger reactivity than triflic acid
2. Hydrolysis reaction: Instantly reacts with water to generate trifluoromethanesulfonic acid (triflic acid) and release heat
3. Sulfonylation / triflation: Converts alcohols, phenols, ketones, amides into corresponding triflate esters; widely used to introduce OTf leaving group
4. Lewis acid property: Forms strong acid complex with ethers, nitriles, promotes cyclization, rearrangement, Friedel-Crafts reactions
5. Reactivity with nucleophiles: Violent exothermic reaction with primary/secondary amines, alcohols, all protic polar solvents
6. Thermal stability: Stable under normal sealed storage; above 120 °C slow decomposition, release toxic fluoride gas
7. Acid-base property: Strongly acidic anhydride; reacts with all alkaline substances to form triflate salts
8. Compatibility: Only compatible with fully anhydrous non-protic inert solvents (DCM, dry toluene); strictly incompatible with water, alcohol, amine, ketone, strong base, metal oxides

3. Main Application Fields

1. Organic synthesis triflation reagent (Core Application)

   Introduce triflate (-OTf) leaving group onto aromatic rings, aliphatic alcohols, enols. Triflates have excellent leaving performance for Suzuki, Heck, Negishi cross-coupling reactions; key reagent for synthesizing drug intermediates, liquid crystal monomers, OLED photoelectric materials.
2. Super acid catalyst precursor

   Mixed with weak Lewis bases to generate super acid catalytic system, catalyze Friedel-Crafts alkylation/acylation, intramolecular cyclization, pinacol rearrangement, polycondensation reactions under mild conditions.
3. Pharmaceutical chiral intermediate synthesis

   Prepare chiral triflate intermediates for asymmetric synthesis of anti-tumor, anti-inflammatory, central nervous system APIs; improve coupling reaction yield and reduce side impurities.
4. Ionic liquid & electrolyte raw material

   Synthesize triflate ionic liquids and lithium trifluoromethanesulfonate for lithium battery electrolyte, supercapacitor conductive medium.
5. Polymer & resin modification

   Catalyst for high-performance fluoropolymer, polyimide, aromatic polyether synthesis; adjust polymer molecular weight and thermal stability.
6. Laboratory high-end synthetic reagent

   Standard strong triflating reagent for organic methodology research, total synthesis of complex natural products.
