Chemical Properties
- Molecular structure: Contains phenolic hydroxyl group and methyl ester group of benzoic acid
- Hydrolysis reaction: Under alkaline heating conditions, hydrolyzes to salicylic acid and methanol
- Esterification & transesterification: Reacts with alcohols to generate other salicylate esters under acid catalysis
- Phenolic hydroxyl activity: Weak acidity, can form stable salts with sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide
- Thermal stability: Stable below 180℃; long-term high-temperature heating causes slight discoloration and ester decomposition
