- Appearance: Yellow or orange-yellow crystalline powder
- Odor: Odorless, tasteless
- Solubility: Insoluble in cold water, slightly soluble in hot water; soluble in dilute alkaline aqueous solution; insoluble in ethanol, acetone, ether, chloroform
- Melting Point: Decomposes at 250℃ and above without distinct melting point

Chemical Properties
- Molecular structure: Composed of pteridine ring, p-aminobenzoic acid and glutamic acid three fragments, multi-nitrogen heterocyclic vitamin
- Amphoteric property: Contains carboxyl and multiple nitrogen heteroatoms, reacts with alkali to form soluble folate salts (sodium folate)
- Thermal stability: Unstable under high temperature; boiling aqueous solution will rapidly degrade and lose activity
- Photolysis characteristic: Extremely sensitive to ultraviolet light; strong light irradiation quickly decomposes and fades
- Acid-base stability: Stable in neutral weak acid environment; strong acid heating breaks the pteridine ring; strong alkali promotes hydrolysis of glutamic acid side chain
- Redox property: Easily oxidized by oxidants such as hydrogen peroxide, potassium permanganate to form inactive degradation products
- Chelation ability: Can form complexes with metal ions like iron, zinc, copper
