Chemical Properties
- Structure: Ionic compound composed of Na1+ and Cl1O41- perchlorate anion
- Strong oxidizing property: Perchlorate ion has high oxidation capacity; mixed with organics, sulfur, phosphorus, metal powder will cause combustion and explosion under friction, impact or heating
- Dehydration reaction: Heating to 120–140℃ removes crystal water to get anhydrous sodium perchlorate
- Metathesis reaction: Reacts with potassium salt, ammonium salt to generate potassium perchlorate, ammonium perchlorate precipitates
- Thermal decomposition: Anhydrous salt decomposes above 480℃ to release oxygen, sodium chloride
- Acid-base stability: Stable in neutral and alkaline environment; concentrated strong acid generates perchloric acid
- Compatibility: Forbidden to mix with reducing agents, combustible materials, organic solvents, metal powders
