Physical Properties
- Appearance: White or off-white fibrous powder

- Solubility: Soluble in cold and hot water to form viscous colloidal solution; insoluble in ethanol, acetone, ether and other organic solvents

Chemical Properties
- Molecular structure: Cellulose ether derivative, hydroxyl groups on cellulose glucose units are partially substituted by carboxymethyl sodium group (-CH2COONa)
- Ion characteristic: Anionic water-soluble polymer; precipitates when encountering heavy metal ions or strong acid
- Thermal stability: Stable below 80 °C; long-term heating above 100 °C leads to gradual viscosity reduction and thermal degradation
- Crosslinking reaction: Can form gel complex with aluminum salt, ferric salt, calcium salt
- Compatibility: Compatible with most water-soluble additives, surfactants and water-soluble polymers; incompatible with strong acid, heavy metal salts and cationic polymers
