Chemical Properties
- Composition Features: Dominated by irones (9–20%) and long-chain saturated fatty acids (myristic acid as main component), plus trace aromatic alcohols and aldehydes
- Aging Characteristic: Fresh iris rhizomes have nearly no fragrance; enzymatic oxidation during long-term curing converts iridal precursors into irones to form typical violet scent
- Thermal Stability: Stable below 80 °C; long-time high-temperature heating will cause fatty acid oxidation and aroma deterioration
- Photostability: Moderately light-sensitive; prolonged UV exposure weakens floral aroma and deepens oil color
- Compatibility: Excellent blending performance with rose, jasmine, sandalwood, cedar, bergamot and vetiver oils; compatible with most cosmetic oily excipients; incompatible with strong alkaline reagents and strong oxidants
- Fixative Property: Low volatility base note material, effectively prolongs lasting time of top and middle fragrance notes
