Chemical Properties
- Molecular structure: Ester formed by salicylic acid and 2-ethylhexanol, contains phenolic hydroxyl group and benzene ring conjugated system, has strong UVB absorption capacity
- UV absorption characteristic: Effective UVB filtering agent with absorption peak at 305 nm, widely used in sunscreen formulations
- Ester hydrolysis: Long-term heating with strong base will break ester bond to release salicylic acid; phenolic hydroxyl can form complexes with metal ions
- Photostability: Moderate light stability; long-term intense UV irradiation slightly reduces UV absorption efficiency
- Thermal stability: Stable below 150 °C; high-temperature overheating produces slight phenolic decomposition odor
- Compatibility: Excellent compatibility with sunscreen oil phases, silicone oils and cosmetic emulsifiers; incompatible with strong alkali and heavy metal salts
